[Story of the Sister City Affiliation]

The international exchange of the two cities dates back to August in 1981, when the delegate from Neyagawa City (Neyagawa-shi) visited Oakville City during their study tour in the United State and Canada to observe the garbage treatment facilities and cleanup operations. They signed on the sister city relationship agreement in Oakville City on Apr., 6, 1984, and it is the second sister city affiliation for Neyagawa City.

[Outline of Oakville City and Its Population]

Oakville is a dormitory suburb facing one of the Five Lakes, Lake Ontario and located 20 km south west from the capital city of Ontario State, Toronto. Pioneered from long ago in Canada, the base of the foundation as a city was established in 1827. Nowadays you can see beautiful streets of well-arranged urban development all over. With its well-developed transportation, the city is accessible to Toronto by the expressway, QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way) or the railway.
People can enjoy various kinds of sports all through the year such as golf, ice hockey, yacht and fishing. It is only about two-hour drive to the world famous tourist spot, Niagara Fall.

○ Gairloch Gallery

The gallery stands at the lakeside of Ontario. It was built in 1992 and a personally owned residence before.

○ Oakville Museum

The customhouse built in 1856 and the personal residence built in 1958 are now used as a part of Oakville Museum.

○ Glen Abbey Golf Course

Designed by the golf king, Mr. Jack Nicklaus, this course is famous as the venue of the Canadian Open Golf Tournament. It is such a wonderful course that any golfer dreams to play in. In autumn, you can make a round while enjoying beautiful colored leaves.

○ Bronte Harbor, 13 mile Creek

These are the two yacht harbors in Oakville City where many yachts are moored. The surface of Lake Ontario is covered with colorful yacht sails from spring through autumn.

○ Toronto

Toronto is an international city facing Lake Ontario and located about 30 minutes drive from Oakville City through the express way, QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way). The most famous landmark of Toronto is the CN Tower with the height of 553m. This is also the home ground of Major League team, Blue Jades and there is a world first retractable stadium, "Sky Doom". Other high spots are Ontario Statehouse and the University of Toronto.

○ Niagara Fall, Niagara on the Lake

Niagara on the Lake is the quiet town having a history and tradition with traces of 19th century's Anglicism. Niagara Parkway, the road towards Niagara Falls running along Niagara River is said to be one of the most scenic driveways in the world, which is blessed with seasonal changes of natural beauty. Niagara Falls, consisting of the falls on Canada side and on the U.S. side, present a marvelous view. There are two ways to enjoy the spectacle, to look up the huge falls from the cruising ship, "Maiden of the Mist" or to look at from its backside.
